I'm craving for a curry puff
14 June 2018 | Singapore
The line above says it all, because I do find myself wanting a curry puff every now and then… and it just so happens that Old Chang Kee has recently opened their flagship store, Old Chang Kee Coffee House @ Rex. Now we know where to head off to. :)
They offer signature dishes from Curry Times, Bun Times and Dip ‘n’ Go too, so you can get your Nasi Lemak with Dry Curry Chicken (S$8.90), Sardine Buns (S$1.70), and deep-fried Chicken Skins (S$4.90) together with your Curry’O (S$1.50).
You also don’t have to just buy and leave: It’s now a 50-seater eatery furnished with old photos (this is where the first stall used to be; it started in 1956) and retro pieces, so you can stay and enjoy your food if you want to. It’ll give you a chance to try other specials, like the Flower Bread (from S$11.90) and the Baked Beef Stew Rice with Cheese (S$10.90).
Back to the curry puff. What about you? Do you like yours baked, deep-fried, thick, layered, flaky, thin, crispy, with a few ingredients or with a lot? I think I've seen and tried most of these variations, and I like them all. :)
(By the way, if you happen to be in London, Old Chang Kee just launched an outlet in Covent Garden.)
Old Chang Kee Coffee House @ Rex is at 19-23 Mackenzie Road, #01-01, Singapore 228678; tel: 65 6732 1665. http://www.oldchangkee.com/
